Skin Research Center

Facts & Figures

  • The skin research center is one of the largest and most modern of its kind in Europe and an internationally renowned facility.

  • The center was extended in 2004 to an area of 16,000 square meters at a cost of around 38 million Euros – and it has a lecture hall that is designed to look like a human cell.

  • The research & development unit has a 1,050 square meter test center where more than 1,500 studies on the efficacy and skin tolerability of new skin care formulas and active ingredients are conducted involving 21,000 interactions with volunteers every year.

  • Every day, roughly 150 men and women report at the test center, in order to test Beiersdorf’s future product range in a great variety of studies.

  • Beiersdorf currently has about 9,500 internal and external volunteers for studies in order to verify compatibility and efficacy of products.

  • Besides the studies, that take place at the test center in Hamburg, around 1,000 studies are annually conducted in 45 research institutes around the world.

  • At three of the 35 test rooms in Hamburg, the Beiersdorf researchers are able to simulate climatic conditions in regions such as Asia or Latin America. This provides them with the ideal conditions in which to research the different skin care requirements of consumers around the world.
