An app for all employees: corporate news to go

Working from home, on business trips or on site with business partners: the jobs of many people are becoming more and more flexible and this along with digitalization is bringing a key change with it. In modern work environments, we’re spending much less time at our desks. This development forces companies to figure out how to get their applications ready for their employees’ mobile devices. But the trend isn’t that surprising. “Mobile” has been much more than checking emails, calendars and contacts for a while. Mobile intranet apps are needed and increasingly present challenges for the companies’ internal IT departments. But how mobile is Beiersdorf?

The first step has been taken. In April, Beiersdorf launched its first intranet app, which allows our employees to follow company news on the go. The news app is especially valuable for production workers and field representatives because they don’t have fixed PC access or they are often on the road. The content is secure through registration – which of course, is thoroughly checked. News and other content can easily be displayed from various locations with the app’s content channels. The menu allows our employees all over the world to choose their own content channels and keep informed about the news at their own affiliate as well. Social features such as the “like” button are available too – and there’s more to come!

Mobile apps are essential components of successful digitalization and its development. They should be flexible and easy for employees to use. “We are happy to be able to offer a mobile solution to our employees that has a simple design and works on all devices. We consider this a service provided by the Communications Department. Employees should be able to decide for themselves when and where they consume company news – whether at their desks, in the train or on the way to the next meeting”, says Melanie Neeven, who is responsible for the project in Corporate Communications. “With the news app, we have taken an important step toward a mobile intranet and with projects like this we hope to make Beiersdorf’s internal communications stronger and more closely networked across all locations.”
