Hansaplast Indonesia continues successful first aid campaign

Applying toothpaste on skin burns – and cleaning wounds with damp towels? Many people in Indonesia are unsure how to treat both slight and major injuries correctly. Most of these occur in everyday accidents, for instance on the street, at home or at school.

“The lack of sufficient first aid knowledge in Indonesia is a major issue. A vital first step in helping save a life in an emergency is applying effective first aid skills. Most people have encountered or will encounter a situation where first aid is urgently needed – yet many are afraid to act. Through Aksi Siaga Hansaplast we want to improve this situation by educating everyone about the importance of first aid”, explains Tomasz Schwarz, Marketing Director Beiersdorf Indonesia.

Care for yourself, care for others – and care for the environment

Endorsed by The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health, Hansaplast has developed a five-month First Aid Training Program that will be rolled out to schools with the support of local health centers and doctors. Taking a highly interactive and playful approach using specifically developed training materials and the First Aid Kit, the initiative aims to instruct schoolchildren, teachers and parents in the fundamentals of effective first aid. An additional series of extra-curricular activities and a competition between participating schools will help add depth of content and facilitate the program’s implementation.

By making this training program available not only to kids but also to their parents and teachers, Hansaplast is helping strengthen parents’ ties to their children’s school community and also encouraging parents to bring first aid home into their families.

“Delivering first aid takes empathy with people and dedication, as well as fundamental expertise in how to help correctly and use the right tools properly. With Aksi Siaga we are credibly promoting Hansaplast’s image as First Aid expert,” emphasizes Schwarz.

Actively involving consumers via social media channels

On completion of the training program at participating schools, Hansaplast Indonesia is set to launch a nationwide digital awareness-raising and informational campaign in September, to coincide with World First Aid Day. At #SiagaHansaplast consumers can receive information via their Facebook and Instagram accounts on first aid and the optimal treatment of wounds. What’s more, consumers can win Hansaplast First Aid Kits in a special competition.

Thanks to Aksi Siaga Hansaplast so far over 115,000 pupils, parents and teachers have learned the essentials of effective first aid. Hansaplast Indonesia is planning to continue and expand its engagement in first aid, and has set itself the target of reaching 80,000 children and adults annually with its first aid training courses.
