For Fully Circular Resources

Worldwide, the consumption of natural resources, waste production and negative environmental impacts have risen continuously over the past decades. To counteract this, Beiersdorf is committed to strengthening the circular economy: The recyclability of our packaging and ingredients is of central importance to us and is therefore anchored in our strategic focus area “For Fully Circular Resources”.

To make our actions measurable, we have set the following global targets for packaging by 2025: To use 50% less petroleum-based virgin plastic in our packaging compared to 2019 and to integrate at least 30% recycled material in our plastic packaging. Moreover, 100% of our packaging is to be refillable, reusable or recyclable by 2025.

To optimize the recyclability of our product formulas, we have also set ambitious targets regarding the elimination of microplastics and the use of biodegradable polymers. For example, our Eucerin brand is working to be free of microplastics by the end of 2023. Currently, 76% of product formulations have already been adapted accordingly. All NIVEA products are free of microplastics since end of 2021 already. Across the entire Group, we continue to strive to use 100% biodegradable polymers in our European product formulations by 2025. With progress already at 63%, we are getting closer and closer towards achieving our target!
