city bicycles in Hamburg

As part of our "Green Car Policy" we have defined binding CO2 emissions limits for our company car fleet. From early 2013 this has applied to all passenger vehicles in Germany, Spain, Switzerland and our Central Eastern Europe region, defining CO2 limits for all vehicles used by field staff right through to Board Members. To complement this action, our Switzerland location organized a car-free day for the second year in a row, providing NIVEA bikes free of charge for employees to use whenever they wish. Many employees participated in the initiative on 25 July 2014, coming to work on foot, by bicycle or with public transportation. This way they showed their commitment to reducing climate-damaging CO2 emissions. Find out more about our employee engagement activities here.

At our Hamburg headquarters and in collaboration with neighboring company NXP Semiconductors we installed a StadtRAD ("city bike") bicycle station in March 2014. The station provides low-cost rental cycles that can be borrowed from and returned to any of the bicycle stations in the Hamburg city network. What’s more, since 2014 we have had an association with car-sharing providers "DriveNow" and “Car2go” has been underway: Since the launch, numerous employees have taken advantage of the opportunity to register free of charge to use these shared vehicles.

Both these offers are part of our corporate mobility management approach. To be able to understand the mobility needs of our workforce even better, we carried out a comprehensive employee survey in September 2014. The results are being progressively implemented into the ongoing further development of our transport and mobility concept. One of the most recent measures within this process is our “e-Car” initiative: Since October 2015 employees at our Hamburg Location, as well as visitors, have been able to use charging stations for their electric vehicles at a nominal cost. Three of these “e-pumps” are available in our car parks to power up e-vehicles. We are the first company in Hamburg and one of the first in Germany to provide this innovative and environmentally friendly service. In parallel to this we’ve launched the “Company e-Car” pilot project. Throughout the two-year test phase, supervisory-level employees will have the opportunity to use one of two electric vehicles for three to six months.
