Global Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety Standards

Two employees shaking hands - Beiersdorf

Environmental protection and occupational safety take high priority at all Beiersdorf sites. We ensure we meet our globally valid standards with our “Environmental Protection and Safety Management Audit Scheme” – ESMAS for short. Since 2013 we have relied on a globally active certification service provider to carry out our ESMAS audits. This provider assesses our sites based on the internationally recognized norms ISO 14001 (International Organization for Standardization) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series). The checklist for the occupational safety area on which ESMAS is currently based already includes elements required for the planned transition to ISO 45001, which will probably not be formally approved until 2018. This is why we are already gathering data on Occupational Safety System requirements that will in future uniformly
apply to all ISO-based management systems.

Since the end of 2016 the audit results have been entered into a database and made available to all audited companies. This allows our auditors to plan and carry out their site audits efficiently and transparently. Even better, all our production centers benefit from this system: The audit results provide a basis for follow-up activities, and facilitate the planning and implementation of targeted measures all the way through to success monitoring. All Beiersdorf Group production centers have undergone this audit program, which is scheduled as a continual audit cycle, at least once and have successfully achieved certification. In 2015 and 2016 our production centers in Argentona (Spain), Nairobi (Kenya), Shanghai (China), Silao (Mexico) and Poznan (Poland) were audited. For 2017 we are planning audits at our production centers in Tres Cantos (Spain), Santiago de Chile (Chile) and Sanand (India), along with our German production centers in Berlin, Hamburg and Waldheim.
