Beiersdorf implements EcoBeautyScore for NIVEA and Eucerin – supporting a new level of transparency for consumers

  • Beiersdorf is one of the first cosmetic companies to implement EcoBeautyScore for NIVEA and Eucerin products.
  • Developed over three years and in a collaborative, industry-wide effort, this new label will allow consumers to identify a product’s environmental impact in an easy and comparable way.
  • 99% of NIVEA Face Care products and 100% of Eucerin Face Care products reach A and B scores – a tribute to the company’s strong product transformation efforts of the past years.

Hamburg, 17 July, 2025 – After several years of collaborative efforts with more than 70 companies, trade partners and associations of the beauty and personal care industry, Beiersdorf proudly announces its implementation of the EcoBeautyScore for NIVEA and Eucerin. More precisely, the specific product scores will be displayed online on the respective brand websites to provide full transparency to consumers on the environmental impact behind.

Vincent Warnery, CEO of Beiersdorf, states: “Sustainability is a team sport. It requires joint efforts across the whole industry to shape a more sustainable future together. And Sustainability needs to be consumer centric. The EcoBeautyScore is a great testament to the power of collaboration, while bringing real added value to our consumers.”

“We are thrilled to see the hard work of the past years result in such a concrete and unique tool,” Dr. Gitta Neufang, Chief R&D Officer, continues. “This joint initiative is a significant step forward, and we are grateful for the collaboration across more than 70 industry partners. It will create a lasting impact and positive change.”

EcoBeautyScores for NIVEA and Eucerin

Online, NIVEA has implemented the EcoBeautyScore on its Face Care products in the first European markets, such as France, Germany and UK (more to follow). The scores can be accessed by consumers on the product detail pages of the local NIVEA Websites. Due to Beiersdorf’s strong efforts in the past years to rework product formulas and packaging towards a lower footprint, 99% of NIVEA’s Face Care assortment received A and B scores.

For Eucerin, the scores are accessible on www.Eucerin.com and will be rolled out across Europe during 2025. Also here, Beiersdorf’s intense measures on formula and packaging level result in excellent scores: 100% of Eucerin’s Face Care products received an A or B score for their environmental impact.

What is the EcoBeautyScore?

The EcoBeautyScore considers 16 environmental dimensions and is a complex data-driven approach, backed by science. The result of a comprehensive data-analysis is a very simple score, ranging from A (highest) to E (lowest). It aims to enable consumers to easily understand and compare a products environmental scoring across different products and brands. Developed in a collaborative, industry-wide effort, the score aims to support the consumer shift towards more sustainable shopping and usage routines.

The EcoBeautyScore started off as a consortium with a focus on coordinating the collaborative efforts of more than 70 companies across the industry. The tool to calculate the scores was launched in March 2025, enabling companies to score their assortments. Right now, the tool can score 4 categories: Face Care, Body Wash, Hair Wash and Hair Treat. To get the first scores implemented online is a big milestone after more than three years of intense industry-collaboration. Moving forward, the association will develop the scoring for further categories to leverage the impact to the max in the coming years.
