At Beiersdorf, we know that combatting climate crisis is the central challenge of our time. To drive climate action protection at all levels within the company and our value chain, we pursue a holistic approach with our mission: We bring climate commitment to skin care.

Bringing our commitment to the next level, we have set the target of net zero emissions by 2045. As we have already met our Scope 1 & 2 target for 2025 (a reduction of 19% absolute CO_2e emissions was achieved), we have also updated our short-term climate target in this context, to reducing our absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 70% and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 40% (vs. 2018) by the year of 2032.

100% Green Energy

All our office and production sites worldwide have been switched to electricity from renewable energy sources in 2019. With this, we reached our target for 2020 one year ahead of schedule – but this certainly doesn’t mean our commitment to clean energy stops there.

Green Logistics

Modern, efficient freight logistics makes the international distribution of our products possible. Beiersdorf is a responsible company, we choose sustainable logistics solutions to continually and systematically reduce our transport-related emissions.

We constantly optimize how we load our containers for shipping, for example, and work to maximize the utilization of our truck capacities and transport routes. As an example, our truck transport service providers use biofuels to transport our products to the Scandinavian countries, as well as to France and Italy. We are also investigating opportunities to use other alternative sources of fuel, such as electricity or hydrogen. Where possible, we also aim to shift the transport of our goods to rail. This applies in particular to Europe and North America, where our largest markets are located. For the remaining global ocean freight shipments, we purchase mass-balanced biofuels from waste streams via certificates. This has enabled us to achieve 77% of emissions resulting from ocean freight being of biogenic origin. In order to understand and successfully use new transport technologies, we are in exchange with external consultants and scientific experts. One example is our collaboration with EcoTransIT to calculate our transport emissions. We share this knowledge with our logistics service providers worldwide.
