For the year 2022 alone, there are more than 25,000 peer-reviewed publications on human skin in the National Library of Medicine ( This corresponds to one publication on the main topic of skin approximately every 20 minutes. In the more than 140 years of our company’s history, which is based on our strong research expertise, Beiersdorf considerably contributed to a rapidly growing wealth of knowledge about skin. Our research into skin biology and the basic biological, chemical, and physical principles of optimal skin care has led to numerous powerful product and active ingredient innovations.

Our multidisciplinary team of human, cell, and molecular biologists, immunologists, and biochemists at the Hamburg Research Center is investigating new active principles that support the skin’s metabolic processes as naturally as possible. We use the latest biochemical, molecular biological and physical research methods.

We also collaborate worldwide with university, institutional and industrial partners from research and science. Moreover, natural scientists can participate in a doctoral program at our Skin Research Center under the supervision of scientists from Beiersdorf AG and university partners.
